"Maureen’s work caught my eye because her compositions speak of an intuitive mind and spirit that translates well onto the canvas. It may sound simple, but there’s a clear integrity in both her technique and her approach. The paintings speak for themselves."

The interview was a delight and we’re grateful to Maureen for sharing so openly. Much like her paintings she presents herself as unguarded, intelligent, expressive, and refreshingly direct

Chatfield is a contemporary artist whose work blends the gestural energy of New York Abstract Expressionism with the color and structure of Bay Area Figurative painting. She studied at the Art Students League, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, FIT, and Hunter College, and cites Gorky, Guston, Diebenkorn, Kline, de Kooning, and Rothko among her key influences, along with the color sensibilities of Sargent, Manet, and Van Gogh. Chatfield’s work spans non-objective abstraction, abstracted landscape, and narrative painting rooted in personal experience. She has exhibited widely and currently teaches "Modern Landscape" at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey.
